Transport
Transport supports are a contribution towards transport related costs for participants who are unable to, or without substantial difficulty, to use public transport independently due to their disability so that they can access the community for educational, recreational and vocational purposes. Transport funding is paid fortnightly into a participant’s nominated bank account on a pro-rata basis.

What The NDIS Will Fund
-
Transport must relate to a support that has been determined to be reasonable and necessary
-
Transport must be an additional cost and uncured solely and directly as a result of disability support needs
-
Transport is ancillary to another funded support that the participant would not otherwise include
-
Supports that a student requires that are associated with the functional impact of the student’s disability on their daily living activities (such as transport to and from school)

What The NDIS Not Fund
-
Ensuring that public transport options are accessible to a person with disability (including through the funding of concessions to people with disability to use public transport)
-
Compliance of transport providers and operators with laws dealing with discrimination on the basis of disability
-
Transport infrastructure (including road and pathway infrastructure)
-
Support to compensate for the lack of a public transport system

Transport and Considerations Relating to Children
Parents of NDIS participants under 18 years have a responsibility to meet their child’s daily transportation requirements, however some children may require additional assistance
(e.g. children who cannot use public transport or their parents vehicle, even if modified, due to their disability)
