Early Intervention
Early Intervention supports assist a participant undertake activities to reduce the participant's future need for support. Early intervention support is available to both children and adults to alleviate the impact of a person's impairment upon their functional capacity by providing support at the earliest possible stage.

1. Early intervention for adults aims to adjust, adopt and build capacity for community resettlement and participation in the community.

2. Early intervention supports for children aged 0-6 years are for children who have a developmental delay or to help children develop the skills they need to take part in daily activities and achieve the best possible outcomes throughout their life.

The Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) Approach is designed to support all children with development delay or disability, as well as work with families to achieve better long-term outcomes.


Early Intervention Criteria

The person has one or more identified intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory or physical impairments; a psychiatric condition; or a development delay that is, or is likely to be, permanent.

Early intervention supports are likely to benefit the person by reducing their future needs for disability related supports

The early intervention service is likely to benefit the person by mitigating or alleviating the impact of the person's impairment upon their functional capacity to undertake communication, social interaction, learning, mobility, self-care or self-management

​The early intervention service will strengthen the sustainability of informal supports available to the person including through building the capacity of the person's carer)

The NDIA is satisfied that early intervention support for the person is most appropriately funded through the NDIS

The early intervention service will prevent the deterioration of functional capacity or improving.

Early Childhood Intervention Australia (ECIA)
Early Child Intervention Australia (ECIA) is the peak body for Early Childhood Intervention in Australia. They represent professionals and organisations that provide services to young children with disabilities or developmental delays and their families.

Lifestart
Lifestart is the Early Childhood Partner who delivers the National Disability Insurance Agency’s Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach in the Nepean Blue Mountains. They offer therapy, behaviour and other supports to Children and young people aged 0-24 years old. Lifestart uses a key worker approach in which a key worker will be one of our specialist professionals to participate in everyday life. Services may include
