Assistance With Personal Care

Personal care is those supports that provide assistance with, or supervision of, personal tasks in daily life so that the participant can live as autonomously as possible.

  • Assistance with Dressing

  • Assistance with Showering & Bathing

  • Personal hygiene

  • Oral hygiene

  • Grooming

  • Toileting

  • Bladder & Bowel Management

  • Skin Care

  • Menstrual Care

  • Eating & Drinking

  • Hoist Transfers

  • Transfers on & off Toilet

  • Basic First Aid

  • Unstable Seizure Activity

  • Respiratory Support

  • Weight Transfers

Personal Care Support Limits

Assistance with daily personal activities should generally be limited to

 

  • A maximum of 6 hours per day

  • 2 hours per day for bathing, dressing, toileting and grooming

  • 2 hours per day for bowel management, skin care, bladder management and menstrual care

  • 2 hours per day for assistance with eating

  • 2 hours a day for assistance with medication

  • 1 hour per day for mobility including exercise, positioning and moving

  • 1 hour per day for toileting assistance

High Care Needs

The NDIA may fund higher levels of personal care support when higher care is needed such as:

 

  • Unstable seizure activity

  • Respiratory support

  • eight transfers and other physical aspects

  • Temporary medical conditions

  • Medication requirement

  • Transfers requiring 2 people

  • Behavioural concerns requiring intensive assistance

  • When time-limited funding is likely to reduce a participant’s longer-term support costs (by building their capacity to independently perform personal care activities)

Complete Care Team

Complete Care Team provides attendant care and nursing Care for people in the community with high support needs to the Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains and Greater Western Sydney Regions. They provide assistance with personal care to aid with tasks such as showering, grooming, assisted feeding and toileting.

Paraquad

Paraquad provide personal care services for people with spinal cord injury and other complex physical disability. Their personal care assistants (PCAs) help with:

  • Bowel care and management

  • Bladder and catheter care

  • Continence management

  • Showering, bathing, grooming and dressing

  • Safe transfers, including use of hoists

  • Light domestic duties

  • Laundry and cleaning

  • Shopping and preparing meals

  • Assistance with meals

  • Accessing the community

  • Support with daily activities

  • respite care for your carer

Zest Care

Zest Care provides support staff to help participants in a range of areas including personal care. Their personal care services provides assistance with bathing, toileting and other hygiene needs, as well as feeding, dressing, help with medications and moving around in your own home.
