Participation

Increased social and community participation supports include services and programs that allow participants to take part in skills-based learning to develop independence in accessing the community. This could include:

  • Camps

  • Mentoring

  • Peer-support

  • Individual skill development

  • Public transport training and support

  • Developing skills for community, social and recreational participation 

  • Training for participants in groups to increase their independence in daily personal activities.  

  • Vacation activities that have capacity building components.

  • Assistance to establish volunteer arrangements in the community

Types of Supports

Assistance in Coordinating or Managing Life Stages, Transitions & Support

Assistance in Coordinating or Managing Life Stages, Transitions and Supports  is designed to establish volunteer assistance within the participant’s home or community to develop skills. This support item includes:

  • Mentoring

  • Peer-support &

  • Individual skill development

  • Assistance in attending appointments, shopping, bill paying, taking part in social activities & maintaining contact with others. 

Development of Daily Living & Life Skills

Development of daily living and life skills provides individual life skills development and training including: 

  • Public transport training and support

  • Developing skills for community, social and recreational participation.  

  • Training for participants in groups to increase their independence in daily personal activities.  

 

This support item can be delivered to individual participants or to groups. 

Innovative Community

Participation

Innovative Community Participation is designed to enable providers to offer new and innovative services to participants. It is for mainstream providers who want to enable participants to access mainstream activities.  

Community Participation

Activities

Community Participation Activities is designed to enable providers to claim reimbursement for the activities that build a participant’s skills and independence including:

  • Camps

  • Classes 

  • Vacation activities that have capacity building components.

  • Assistance to establish volunteer arrangements in the community

  • Mentoring

  • Peer support & 

  • Individual skill development

  • The costs of tuition fees, art classes, sports coaching and similar activities

Supports that could be claimed in this line Item include: ï‚·

  1. Universal recreational activities: a limited number of lessons to enable a participant to try out an activity and test their capability and interest in further pursuing this activity (such as horse riding, art, dance or singing classes). ï‚·

  2. Attendance at a “camp” or group that builds a participant’s relationship skills and offer a range of activities and opportunities to explore wider interests. ï‚·

  3. Customised tools required because of the participant’s disability.
