AUSLAN

Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is the language of the Australian Deaf Community. It is the preferred language of the majority of Deaf Australians. It is a highly visual language using hand movements known as ‘signs’, facial expressions and body language to communicate. Although there are similarities between English and Auslan, Auslan has a grammatical structure and word order which is different to that of English.

Auslan-English Interpreters are fluent in both English and Auslan. They translate messages between two or more parties who do not share these common languages. Auslan-English Interpreting is a highly specialised field, working within a strict Code of Ethics. Auslan-English Interpreting is a nationally recognised accreditation through the  National Accreditation Authority of Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).

Sign Language Australia

Sign Language Australia is a Deaf-owned and Deaf-run business that aims to create awareness of Deaf people that use Auslan and people who are hard of hearing.
